About PRO pro

Amsterdam Fringe Festival and Nederlands Theater Festival have joined forces to create a joint two-day professional programme: Amsterdam Fringe X NTF PRO, the national conference for theatre professionals.

With this new setup, topics are curated from both the Amsterdam Fringe and NTF networks. Together, the festivals determine the current state of the performing arts and which themes must be addressed during PRO. This new structure aims to foster deeper connection, exchange, equality, and the sharing of ideas and perspectives within the performing arts sector.

The twenty diverse programme sessions, spread over two days, are partly in English and partly in Dutch, ranging from interactive sessions to presentations and various networking moments. Day one takes place at ITA and in the Nes area (De Brakke Grond and Frascati), while day two is centred around Leidseplein (ITA, De Balie & Theater Bellevue).

This year’s programming was curated by Lara van Lookeren and Brandon Oelofse under the guidance of festival director Tobias Kokkelmans.

[[[[ nederlands theater festival

The Nederlands Theater Festival marks the festive beginning of the new theatre season, starting every first Thursday in September, for eleven days, across the city of Amsterdam.
NTF presents the most exceptional and impactful performances of the past season, selected by seven independent juries from the Netherlands and Flanders. The festival celebrates a wide range of theatre genres and forms: from drama to cabaret, youth theatre, mime, performance, and more.

In addition to the selected performances, NTF offers an extensive parallel programme for both the public and professionals, with lectures, workshops, debates and other activities — not only in Amsterdam but throughout the country. NTF INTERACTIE brings audiences and theatre makers into dialogue. And NTF PRO is the meeting place for theatre professionals from across the Netherlands.

The festival traditionally opens with the powerful State of the Theatre address and the in-depth State of the World interview with an acclaimed international artist. It ends with the grand Gala of Dutch Theatre, where the country’s most prestigious theatre awards are presented.

With its rich history and continued commitment to quality and innovation, the Nederlands Theater Festival remains a cornerstone of the Dutch theatre world and a highlight for both theatre lovers and professionals.

The Nederlands Theater Festival is from 4 until 14 September. Learn more about it here.

ANBI & stichting [[[[

Stichting De Theaterdagen is organising Amsterdam Fringe X NTF PRO, Nederlands Theater Festival (NTF) and Amsterdam Fringe Festival. The founding aims to promote and encourage theatre and drama in the Dutch language area.

NTF is the only large-scale theatre festival in the Netherlands. The festival distinguishes itself by bringing professionals and the audience together around a quality selection of performances from the Netherlands and Flanders and the prestigious gala hosted by het Nederlands Theater. Next to a broad scala of theatre, the festival offers an extensive progam for deepening and participation for anyone (potentially) interested in theatre. The festival enjoys national prestige and is considered an important landmark in the cultural year.

Amsterdam Fringe Festival offers a large overview of the new avant-garde, also for programmers from abroad and embodies a much needed role when it comes to talent development. The audience sees the festival as an excellent opportunity to catch the highlights of the year and simultaneously discover new talent in the Fringe.

Fringe has an experimental nature, contributes a selection of (international) new makers and stand for spunk, adventure and often socially relevant themes that are regularly addressed in an unorthodox manner. Fringe is conciously seeking for ‘’the edge’’.

In a nutshell the NTF festival program consists of theatre performances from last season, carefully selected by the Toneeljury, plus 1 location theatre performance, a selection made by the flamish jury, youth theater performances, Festival’s Choice, de nominees from the BNG Theaterprijs, the deepening progam for professionals (NTF PRO) around ongoing themes and an interactive parrallel program for visitors. The Fringe program, amongst other things, consists of a selection of (inter)national performances based on an open registration. In 11 days, the theatres and hotspots are saturated with a broad and in-depth qualitative festival, concluding high lights from the theatre season, up to performances on the theatrical fringes surrounded by various activities for the festival visitor.
