PRO x De Metselarij: Between algorithm and autonomy

Ethical dilemmas for cultural marketers in the grip of powerful tech giants

Cultural organizations are increasingly utilizing social media as a powerful communication tool. At the same time, more and more questions arise about how these platforms work.

Algorithms determine who gets to see your content. Moreover, the disappearance of fact checking is leading to an increase in disinformation, while hate speech is hardly being stopped. For many cultural institutions, this creates an area of tension: how do you stay visible without losing sight of your principles?

How can we act in the split between big tech companies and our own values? What alternatives and forms of collaboration can help us remain not only visible, but also incorruptible and responsible? We discuss ways to make these decisions transparent and conscious, both internally within the organization and to our public. By sharing experiences together.

This programme is part of Solidarity as Strategy and is available as a free add-on.
